Phishing:
Criminals will send out fradulent e-mails, complete with authentic logos, website addresses or contact information, asking you to update, verify or change your personal information, such as your account number or password. These e-mails, or Phishes, are attempts to scam you. If you receive an e-mail from Bank of Essex, report it to us immediately and do not respond to it until it is confirmed as legitimate. Bank of Essex will never e-mail you requesting that you update, verify or change your personal information.
Nigerian 419 Scam:
This particular scam promises the recipient a large sum of money. The recipient is asked to provide their bank account information so the sender can wire a significant amount of money to be held until a later date. In return, the recipient would be rewarded a certain percentage of that amount. After the account information is supplied, the recipients account is drained and the money is not recoverable.
